Chapter 39: Moving with Intention

Hey Family!

Wow.

There’s been some significant changes since the last Blog Post. The biggest one is that I added another year of life on this earth. As I enter this next chapter, the main idea that is sticking with me is intention.

This next year around the sun I will move with intentionality. We can all "do the things," but I no longer want to do things aimlessly or just allow life to carry me. I want each day to be a day of intention. My moves this year will all be intentional. Before I hit 40, I will always plan to move in intention and discipline. I think the two go hand in hand. Not discipline in the sense of punishment, but rather discipline in the sense of self-control.

I know with this last crazy year of COVID-19, a lot of us felt out of control, or that life was out of control. While a ton of life things are truly out of our control, our responses and reactions to them are not. Yes, we have reflexes, but we usually have a choice to make in the terms of our responses. My responses will be intentional and disciplined.

My how this relates to design moment:

There is SOOOOOOOO much intention in design. The reason why you may love a model home, or browsing pictures on a home buying or design app is because everything in those places were intentional. All the little details were figured out and thought about. The deco book covers, the beaded necklace hanging from the console table, the light fixture finish, the wood floor hue for the great room, the brass picture frame on the mantle, the guest towel in the powder room. They were all created for a certain look, feel and vibe that was intentional. EVERY SINGLE DETAIL.

Let's study this through a picture:

All of the items above are intentional. The varying pillow colors, the two different throw blankets, the play on textures, the succulents and their heights, the coffee tables, the picture frames and artwork, the light fixture, the pouf, the rug, the floor, the paint color, the curtain, draping, and it's color. The sofa and the side table. All of these brief 15 items that I mentioned were thought out, measured, planned and coordinated together to fit an aesthetic and feel. All of the feels were intentional.

This may "feel" overwhelming to you, but as designers, we’re trained for this and a lot of times, this is our brain. We think about all of the little details that look great so you don’t have to. You can come home and just enjoy your space.

I’ve always wondered why my brain moved in the fashion that it did in thinking about all of the little things. I’m so humbled and grateful that the Lord is displaying further why. Chapter 39 is going to be the best one yet - intentionally.

Make Everyday Beautiful,

Tiana
