Light Up your Life!

Hey Everyone!

This is my fourth blog post and I’m so happy to be back and my health in full swing! Now that I’m back, I’ve definitely seen some dark days, but more importantly, I’ve seen the light!

Lighting is SOOOOOOO important in any space. With the winter coming upon us, lighting is vital for your mood, overall warmth of your home and even aiding in treatment of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD).

Also, as we’re learning in this fully telecommuting culture, lighting is even vital for your computer camera in those virtual meetings. You shouldn’t sit with a window behind you for your Zoom shot, you need to have the light in front of you.

As you look at your spaces, are you getting enough light? Light can motivate you and give you more energy.

Do you need to remove shutters that completely block off sunlight? Vitamin D (that good sunlight vitamin) fights disease, reduces depression and boosts weight loss - bye COVID-19 pounds!

Do you need to try some sheer curtains? Sheer curtains let enough light in to brighten a room, but leave enough privacy to ensure unwanted eyes can’t see all the way through.

If you’re planning any demolition, thing about adding some floor to ceiling windows, or just increasing window size, as natural light is the best light. If you can’t add natural light, still invest in amazing artificial light pieces such as floor lamps, wall lamps, and ceiling lights.

Ensure you learn about what light bulbs you prefer and in what spaces. I usually say to go for LED’s as they are the most environmentally friendly and last the longest.

Warm white bulbs usually works best where you want soft lighting. Think of your bedroom, living room and dining room. At night, this is where your eyes can get a rest.

Think of cool white as where you’re getting work done. Cool white is where you need to see natural colors. Think of workshops, kitchens and garages.

You don’t always have to “play” by these rules. You may prefer a warm white in your kitchen as you get annoyed of the cool color. You can play around with light to see your true preference. Just remember, lighting is essential.

God didn’t say "let there be light" for nothing. ;)

Make Everyday Beautiful,

Tiana
