Rest and Rejuvenation

Hey Family!!!

We’ve just closed a holiday weekend in the U.S. and I hope you all have been able to rest and rejuvenate. I know I did and it was SOOOOO AMAZING.

As many of you know, I left my full-time amazing job to go into this journey of self-employment and design full time. Well, I am arriving on completing two months into this new space and it’s been BUSY! Just learning the new arena, adjusting to a completely different atmosphere than my previous employment, and assisting all of the amazing clients we serve has been A LOT. It’s been FANTASTIC and A LOT at the same time.

It’s been a task the Lord has definitely shown I’m prepared for, but I would be lying if I didn’t admit that some things have been daunting. As a human, you want to creep back into your safety turtle shell and stop navigating new waters. But I know my safety shell is no longer an option. We rolling in the deep.

With self-employment, I’ve learned that your 8 hour days turn into 16 and you really have to be intentional about boundaries, self-care and your health. You have to be all the way on when you need to be on, but truly be off when you’re off.

Well, how does this relate to design? It relates in EVERY SINGLE WAY. Your rooms and spaces should have designated areas that serve a purpose. If you have a home office, it needs to reflect that. Do NOT, I repeat, DO NOT put your home office in your bedroom.

Your rest place should not be your work place.

If you have daily meals with the family (or you want to start doing that) you should have a designated dining area. You don’t need a formal dining room to designate a dining area. You can still be intentional about your family gathering, fellowship and breaking bread time though.

You can create multiple zones in the same room, but locations in your home should serve their purpose and function that is needed for your family.

As designers, we are actually problem solvers. We make your home work better for you. We find the nooks and crannies that aren’t being utilized and also create an overall better flow. We create places and spaces that allow you to rest and rejuvenate.

This past weekend, I got to see one of my dearest friends get married, and hang with my best friend in her new home. It was the amazing rest and sista friend rejuvenation for me. It was EVERYTHANG.

So, I have one question for you. Is your home providing the rest and rejuvenation you need, or does it bring more pain than solace? Are some details in your home just bothering you, or some old things from your previous home not working in the new space?

You must be intentional about your home providing a safe space of rest and rejuvenation. Well, have no fear, your designer is here! Definitely send a message my way!

You can’t fill everyone’s cup if your cup is empty.

Take care of yourself and “Treat yo self”

Make Everyday Beautiful,

Tiana
