HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY FAMILY!
I hope this day (and everyday) fills you with love. Speaking of love, do you love a lot of things about your home? Are there things in your space that you’re only “in like” with? Or are there things that you just flat-out hate about your home?
Well, interior designers take something from good to great. We help amplify your space, and make it work better for you. Designers help with fixing home problems and find amazing solutions. Some of those solutions are small changes that can have a big impact.

On the next “22 in 22”, I’m going to show one of those small changes in my home that will make a big impact. I HAVE to update my staircase.

I’m a person who loves a grand staircase. I think a staircase can be such a beautiful architectural detail that deserves its moment to shine. Well, doing a full staircase remodel can be pretty pricey because of all the structural requirements. We’re talking thousands of dollars, and sometimes, that’s just materials.
Something you CAN do to the staircase that doesn’t hurt the pockets too much, is just painting/staining the rail and adding new artwork. Without spending thousands of dollars, go buy paint at your local Lowe’s or Home Depot, and shop your local Homegoods or other decor store for new artwork.
Now that “new” staircase only costs hundreds of dollars rather than thousands and the space looks completely refreshed!
Here’s some other small changes, big impact ideas:
Pillow Covers. Buy them for your living room sofa or bed and switch them out seasonally for an updated look as the weather changes.
Artwork, Artwork, Artwork. New art pieces can truly update a space. I’m also a fan of supporting independent artists on sites like Etsy.com where you know your money is going directly to the source.
Add New Lighting. A new chandelier, pendants or new general recessed bulbs can definitely refresh a room. Also, check out the wattage requirements for your lamps to see if a higher wattage will provide better light. Switch bulbs from cool to warm light to see if this is the change you need.
Switch Out Window Treatments. These can get expensive, focus on a single room for the impact and make sure you measure the right length for any treatments.
PAINT!!! Whether it’s a singular accent wall, a personal art canvas, built-ins, cabinets, furniture, trim, doors, or a whole room, a fresh coat of paint can work wonders! At a minimal cost, you can have a refreshed look in one weekend.
Refresh Hardware. Updating old furniture or kitchen cabinetry? Buy some new knobs or hardware that will update those family heirlooms or give a “just” purchased look
New Bedding. Sometimes a bedroom just needs a single spruce up. This can be achieved in buying a new comforter set or duvet covers. Think about switching bedding and looks out for changes in cooler or warmer weather temperatures.
